PARIS HAUTE COUTURE: CHRISTIAN DIOR SS/11

Looking at the silhouettes John Galliano sent down the runway, on Day one of Paris Couture week, we can note a rich contemporary revival of Dior’s ‘New Look’ 1950s flavor. A head to toes, modern and wearable take on the classic. Ladies & Gents, brace yourself.

Here comes the magenta-to-black magic!

For these womanly silhouettes, Galliano drew his inspiration from the pen and ink of renowned 20th century French Fashion illustrator René Gruau, who worked directly with M. Christian Dior, for much of his career.

Note Gruau’s chic and elegant illustrations, they are of a timeless beauty.

Red lips, 50′s hair, ‘New Look’ belted skirts or pencils skirts, opera-length gloves – reminiscent of Gruau’s signature gloved hands, all ushered glamor in the most sensual way, while Beige has never been so sexy and exciting.

Ultra feminine cinched silhouettes, feathers accents, ripples of tulle and dove gray hues won us over, and we are just looking at the pictures (thank you technology). Is that a tulle mask covering the lady’s face in the most dangerously sexy way? We want it!

And just when you thought you had seen it all, Va-va-voom, here comes the tulle in volume. Galliano went all out, literally enveloping his models in layers and layers of tulle, for a heavenly finish, masterfully going from powder-blue to beige.
