Miss SLY!: What have you learnt about the industry and yourself from your PRC-2 Experience, and how is that going to affect your Career and Vision going forward?
Jaclyn Murray: I have learnt that you have to always go with your gut and sometimes those gut decisions are very hard. I think this will always keep one honest, true and on one’s toes, thriving and graciously accepting the next great opportunity.
M.S!: As a Designer, how do you intend to keep Canadian Fashion competitive, relevant and make it a MUST Have in the international market?
J.M: I firmly believe that designers need to set the trends and not follow them. Looking at many different sources-not just fashion-for inspiration is key to keeping things unique, spontaneous and unpredictable.
M.S!: When it comes to signature style, how would you incorporate yours in the upcoming fall 2009 and Spring 2010 seasons and what will set your designs apart on the runway?
J.M: My designs are my designs; they are rooted in concept, they are made with intent and they appeal to women who are always searching for those extra details, something special in their clothes.
M.S!: Now that PRC-2 is over, what’s next for you and what projects are you working on that you can share with us?
J.M: Currently, I am working on an artistic collaboration in developing a women’s wear label called Benefeco for the online retail boutique, 2960. I am also continuing pursuit in my textile research, surface treatments and development; exploring the intrinsic relationship between clothing and cloth.
Jaclyn had left the show for health reasons, during the very 1st episode. I am glad to see her back on track and working on a new projects. We will be looking forward to that.
The next Exclusive Interview will feature Christie Clayton from Vancouver.
“…I learnt so much about myself as a person and as a designer. I realized that I needed to work on being confident with my ideas as an artist by trusting my own judgment even if it means having to fight for my style.”
