PRC-2: Ep.1 “Fashion Is a Battlefield”

At last, it is very exciting to watch the show knowing that it’s taking place here in Ottawa, which puts our National Capital on the forefront of Canadian Fashion for once, love it!
The first episode saw the early departures of Danio and Jaclyn due to medical reasons. They didn’t get a chance to compete, which is too bad because I feel that Danio had a lot to offer and great chances to make it to the Top 3. I hope they both get well, health first there will be other opportunities.
Most Designers were particularly nervous, can you blame them? Maybe to the exception of Brandon, Kim and Margarita who I found to be more vocal than the others. Sunny’s personality won me over; he is in my opinion charming, silent but deadly so watch out for him. Adejoke was a totak class act and Jessica pretty bubbly. Jeff seemed genuinely happy to be there (his emotion was palpable).
But with a one hour season premiere, picking up on the true essence of each Designer turned out to be more difficult than I thought, let’s hope the upcoming episodes will tell us more. ======================================================
Project Runway is all about the unpredictable and nerve-racking challenges that often remind us of a war of fabrics and creativity, and this season makes no exception, kicking things off right on the money.
The Designers joined Brian and Iman at the Canadian War Museum, to be introduced to their very first challenge. Still in the concept of war, they were asked to create a groundbreaking design inspired, using Camouflage fabrics. The winning design would be featured at the “Canadian War Museum Camouflage Exhibition” this the summer (which I must attend now!).
I am not a big fan of Camouflage and if it weren’t for PRC-2 I wouldn’t even bother, but this challenge was more than camouflage and war, it was clearly the chance for the Designers to introduce themselves to the Canadian Public, and I couldn’t miss that. They were asked to create a groundbreaking design around the “war” them to show what they’re really about, by incorporating their personal touch in the process. I studied every single design with a watchful eye, one after the other, taking fierce notes, occasionally clapping, smiling, nodding…or at times staring in mayhem.
======================================================
- Baylor: One-shoulder flirty dress showing some legs, was sexy but just a little too green for my taste
- Camille: Interesting construction but rather inconsistent, failed to incorporate the Challenge theme plus the model looked dirty
- Christie: A clear take on “Jem and the Holograms“, very colourful and pop with no sign of war or true camouflage
- Sunny: Very sophisticated and remarkable tailored Jacket with skirt + (A potential challenge winner IMO)
- Margarita: A leopard print dress, more average than groundbreaking, not so bad but why the matching head band?
- Adejoke: Fashion, Fashion, Fashion, very chic fitted dress with a high collar and ruffles in front, loved every part of the dress, war meets fabulous + (A potential challenge winner IMO)
- Brandon: Bare back dress with huge bow details, showed little to no camouflage, I know he can do much better, looking forward to the next piece
- Jason: Mini dress covered with sort of a cape or curtain, very Safari rather than war, hard to grasp concept but not boring, just a bit risqué
- Kim: Too much of everything going on, couldn’t dissect her design to analyze it, needs to edit edit edit!
- Jeff: Very wearable but not striking enough, a clean and classic look that could use some oomph to get to the next level
- Genevieve: Interesting construction on the dress but not figure flattering, too bulky for the model, would have worked best if refined
- Jessica: Long gown, classic with an edge but not memorable, at least the war theme was used here
=====================================================
The judges agreed that Adejoke and Sunny presented the strongest looks of the bunch on today’s challenge, but only one could win and Adejoke’s Design was picked as the winner (which I completely agree with, even if they were both winners in my opinion). Her design will feature at the “Canadian War Museum Camouflage Exhibition” this the summer and I will be there to take pictures of the fabulous dress. She also has immunity next week, which means that she can’t be eliminated, Sweet!
Sunny and Adejoke’s Designs
In the end, it’s Camille Prins who “didn’t measure up”and was sent home. She failed to deliver a striking design that would leave the Judges asking for more.
Watch her Exit interview and many to come, on the new Section: “PRC-2: Who did not measure up” here on the Blog!
In the upcoming episodes, I want the Designers to leave their comfort zone and step up their
game to the max, No need to play it safe (remember Canadian winner Evan Biddell or American winner Christian Siriano)
Until next week, Tataaaaaaaaaaaaaa!
